What's up, brian? Welcome to another episode of Can Be Broke podcast. I'm your host, seamonster, and today, on SeaMonster's mindset, we're gonna get after it. We're gonna talk about being hungry and staying hungry, and I'm not talking about eating food, baby. I'm not talking about feeding yourself, but feeding your soul. I'm talking about feeding greatness, success, breeding change, and feeding that thing that causes you and us, and all of us, to create change, to create success, to get a plan, to stay disciplined, to create grit, to have tenacity and sacrifice. That's how you win championships is by being hungry.
Speaker 1:Being hungry is the term we use to describe a need, not a want, a need. Let me break down really quick what hungry means in as a definition and then change it up in regards to not food, but something else. So hungry is having a strong desire or craving, displaying a need for food. But we're gonna throw in there and get food out of there and throw in a need for something, a need for winning, for change, for growth, for championships, for success. A need, a strong desire, a craving. That's in the definition, but for food hungry. But when you apply that, when you apply hungry to what your goal is, what you wanna attain, and you apply the word need. It changes everything. It changes your being of, who you are and what you want and how bad you're willing to work, stay disciplined and so many different things to get where you wanna be. You're willing to do anything, kids. You know why A hungry dog runs faster. Just think about that. Think about what I'm talking about right now. Think about something you want so fucking bad. Anything, whatever that might look like Graduating college, getting that dream job, winning a championship, getting paid a certain amount, having that ultimate relationship I don't care what it is. Whatever it is that you want run a marathon, win a marathon, run an ultra, do a triathlon, do an Ironman, whatever it is that you want so bad. You have to be hungry for it. You have to have the mindset of hunger, of need of. There's nothing else more important than this right now because, like I said, right now, a hungry dog runs faster. Just imagine a dog that is starving, that is craving but needs food. That dog will do whatever it needs to to get that food, to get it before the other dogs do. It will kill, it will sacrifice, it will do everything needed to overcome and if you can have in your mind the word need and hunger and put that into use, Change will occur. You will achieve what you, your goal is, whatever you want and whatever that looks like.
Speaker 1:See a lot of the times when I have clients or people I talk to. They say Things like I want to Graduate from college, I want to earn this amount of money, I want to Win a championship, I want to lose weight, I want to Do this, want, want is cool. It's like I want something for Christmas, I want that car as well. Okay, if you get it or not. It's okay if you don't get it. But need I Need to lose weight, I Need to win a championship, I need to be the MVP, I need to graduate college, I need to be successful, I Need to grow. There is no plan B with need. There isn't. Yeah, it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen.
Speaker 1:Need Is a desire that you're unwilling to bargain with yourself and with anything else or anybody else about anything. There is no bargaining, there is no fucking time off. There is no negotiation with your feelings and your emotions. You don't feel like getting up that day because it's cold? Well, fuck you. You don't feel like doing the work because you're sore? Well, fuck you. Well, the training outside and I need to put 18 miles in, yep, well, fuck you. Oh, I don't like that subject so I'm not gonna go to school, or that hate the teacher, oh my god, is so hard, or it's so long, or I have to walk to that class so far. Well, fuck you I, whatever it is, if you just want it, you ain't gonna get where you wanna be. But if you stay hungry, if you create hunger, a mentality of need, a mentality of there's no negotiation, a mentality of a purpose, you will achieve and get what you have coming for. You Need will occur.
Speaker 1:Hunger creates discipline, grit, even patience, mental toughness, curiosity, tenacity and sacrifice. Release the ultimate mental toughness and talk to get where you wanna be. Be a hungry fucking dog, be a hungry dog, but be the nicest fucking person outside of that. Get where you gotta fucking be with grit, with tenacity, with an urgency, with non-negotiating, but be a nice fucking person as well. At CSUN, when I played ball there, it was about being a dog, but off the field you better represent. Well, you better be a nice person. You better make sure that you don't do something dumb to embarrass yourself and embarrass the team and embarrass the university, embarrass your coach and your teammates. Now, that's hard to do to have that passion, to create it, to get it, to trick your mind to do it. But you know what's harder Once you've won that championship, once you've got that job, once you've got that partner, once you've made that money, once you have achieved your goal, your dream, whatever that looks like, and you're on top, you've won that city championship, you've won that belter goal or whatever.
Speaker 1:The hardest thing to do is to stay there, is to stay hungry, to stay disciplined, to continue to want it as bad, because now you're satisfied. You did the hardest thing. You're satisfied you already had the glory and you're listening to your emotions. Your emotions are content, complacent, and when we reach that, there's no more growth, there's no more leveling up, and that's when you get beat, that's when things start going bad and the check and balance system comes in, the check and balance of like you think you're good, you're not. You think you're okay financially you're not, you're not. You think that when you play another team and they know you're the champions, they're gonna lay down for you. They're not.
Speaker 1:You think that you've learned everything in school and there's nothing else to learn. There is more to learn. You think is you landed the perfect husband or wife or partner or whatever, that it's good, that there's no more work to be done? Well, you're not. You're not done.
Speaker 1:Look, how do you stay hungry? You trick the mind, you talk to yourself and you find a new goal. You find a new purpose. You find the drive, without fucking emotions, to consider and to grow. You keep telling yourself that there's more. How much better can you be? How much better can this be? How much better can this situation be? How much more Can I grow and learn and continue if I stay on top, if I continue to learn, if I continue to get better, that there's no limit? You tell yourself that there's no limit. How many championships can I win? How many MVP titles Can I win? That's when you become great. That's the greatest players, the greatest teams, the greatest people and inventors and Mathematicians and whatnot. They keep going. They keep thinking that they're always gonna be hungry and that they're hungry all the time and if they stop working, that that'll creep back in.
Speaker 1:It's self-talk, and that's one thing that we all have the power to do is talk to ourselves. We can talk our shit of ourselves, about good and bad. Trust me. You can talk to yourself and put your shit down, which is not good, or you can talk to yourself and lift yourself up. It's your choice how you want that to look. I Rambled on. I love it. Stay fucking hungry people. Create hunger. Create the tenacity. Will it be easy? No, it won't. It'll be the hardest thing you ever do, but will it be worth it? It'll be Everything and much more that you ever wanted and remember. You can't be broken.
