Speaker 1:

What up, what up, what up, and welcome to another episode of Can Be Broken podcast. I'm your host, seamonster, and this is Seamonster's Minds It. Today we're going to talk about being a leader and what that defines to be a leader and some of the things that go into being a leader and some of the things that are misunderstood or what doesn't make you a leader. See, being a leader, sometimes you will be misunderstood, you might be hated or disliked. There will be people that have jealousy because you've stepped up to that role, because you've decided to fucking be better, to grow the team, to grow the people around you, and people don't get it. They don't see it. They just don't understand. But when you get to leading people and changing their thoughts and making them better, they will start to believe you will help them be better. You will make everybody better around you. There will be frustration, but you have to be persistent, patient and intentional with your message. Let's talk a little bit about what makes a leader.

Speaker 1:

What is a leader? There's a couple of different kinds of people that take leadership roles. One of them is a silent leader, somebody who just leads by example, who doesn't say much but just does the right thing all the time gets there early, leaves late, works hard, leaves it on the field, leaves it at school, leaves it at work. Makes everybody better around them by who they are, by being present, by being deliberate, by taking ownership. And then there's the one that's more vocal, giving advice, talking a little bit more understanding when the team needs to hear it. There are a couple characteristics that make up a leader. One, and the most important, is that the leader must take responsibility. They must take full ownership of their actions, good and bad, specifically bad ones. They must be able to accept their failures, their mistakes, their shortcomings, and be able to be vulnerable, to express that to the team. You must take ownership. Number two he must be able to share his hardships, his mistakes, his failures, being vulnerable to the team, in order for them to understand him, to understand that he is a person, a person who also makes mistakes, but who learns from them, who has gotten better because of those mistakes and who's in the trenches with them. Three he must be able to share what he learned from those mistakes, from those hardships, from those failures. What lesson did he learn that made him better, so that they understand what they can do to be better. How to overcome when shit gets tough, when things are going bad. How do you overcome that? How do you get better? What did he do it? What lesson did he learn? What methods did he use to overcome that?

Speaker 1:

Number four a leader is able to identify and make people better around him. He's able to identify what that person, what each individual, needs to be better. They need pep talks, they need to be told a certain way, in a certain way. They need to be left alone. They need to be shown how to do it. He needs to be able to identify everybody's characteristic and how he can make them better, so that the team could be better, but bring everybody individually and make them better.

Speaker 1:

Lastly, a leader must do what he preaches. He must lead by example. If he says something, there's no if and or but He will get it done. He will be up and where he needs to be at that time and never be late. He will show up when he says he's going to show up. He will finish what he said, he's going to start. He will tell them how he feels his body, his mind that he's not all there, that he's still there, working, grinding, giving it the best he has. He will show up for everybody. Everybody will know that there was no shortcoming in his effort, that he left it all out there, that he did his best and that's all you can do. Not everybody will listen or understand. Remember, you also may be hated or not liked, but stay the course. Be patient, be persistent, be intentional And stay disciplined. Be a leader and remember you can't be broken.
